About CCF TeaTea
Oh, glorious CCF Tea! This ancient Ayurvedic blend—made from the humble seeds of cumin, coriander, and fennel—is a true elixir of well-being for the postpartum mother.
In my practice as a postpartum caregiver, this tea is the very first thing I offer after birth. It’s warm, aromatic, and deeply soothing to the digestive system. As the body transitions from birth, this gentle tea supports recovery, hydration, and balance.

Ingredient Notes
Give this warm and healing tea to a mama immediately after she births her baby! Her postpartum recovery will be off to a great start! Here’s why:
Cumin Seeds: Grounding and warming. Cumin ignites agni (digestive fire), reduces bloating, and helps the body assimilate nutrients.
Coriander Seeds: They support the liver, reduce internal heat, and gently detoxify.
Fennel Seeds: Sweet and soothing. Fennel relaxes the nervous system, reduces gas, and supports milk flow.
Together, these three seeds help bring the body back into homeostasis after the massive event of childbirth.
After birth, digestion is often sluggish and the body is tender. This tea gently awakens and regulates digestion without overstimulation. It also helps:
- Relieve gas and bloating
- Calm uterine cramping
- Flush excess fluids
- Support gentle detoxification
- Rehydrate tissues with warm, easily absorbed fluid
By restoring warmth and digestive strength, this tea sets the stage for deep postpartum healing.
Why is this tea so good for breastfeeding mothers?
Cumin, Coriander and Fennel Tea supports digestion, boosts lactation, reduces trauma in the body, helps alleviate cramps and supports movement in the body’s lymphatic system. Fennel, in particular, has been used for centuries as a galactagogue—a herb that promotes healthy lactation.
Sipping this tea throughout the night and day helps a mother stay hydrated while providing gentle digestive support that benefits both her and her baby. What nourishes the mother, nourishes the milk, and nourishes the baby.
Steps To Making CCF Tea (large batch)
Here’s a quick overview of the steps to make this tea in a large batch. I always make tea for postpartum mothers in large batches so she has a thermos full of tea on her bedside table night and day. Read more about my large-batch postpartum tea protocol in Notes and Tips. For full ingredients and instructions, scroll down to see the recipe.
1. In a large pot, bring 64oz (8 cups) of water to just barely a boil, then immediately take it off the heat.
2. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp coriander seeds, and 2 tsp fennel seeds.
3. Cover and let steep for 20 minutes.
4. Strain the seeds out.
5. Pour 4 cups into the thermos for daytime sipping and store the remaining 4 cups in a sealed container in the fridge. In the evening, heat the remaining 4 cups of tea and put it in the thermos for nighttime sipping.
6. Place the thermos (I like this one) and a mug on the mother’s bedside table.
CCF Tea Variations
- Add fresh ginger: For extra warmth and circulation support.
- Add fenugreek seeds: To further enhance milk supply.
- Add cinnamon: For blood sugar balance and a comforting aroma.
- Add rose petals: For emotional uplift and cooling balance.
Notes and Tips
- Single Serving Recipe: If you prefer to make the tea in single serving batches, you can add 1/4 tsp cumin seeds, 1/4 tsp coriander seeds and 1/2 tsp fennel seeds to a loose-leaf tea bag and steep in 8oz – 16oz of water for 15 minutes. Remove bag. Sip and enjoy!
- Bulk Preparation: The seeds can be prepared in bulk, making it quick to prepare. Here’s how: Mix ¼ cup Cumin seeds, ¼ cup Coriander seeds and ½ cup Fennel seeds. Put the mixture in a mason jar with a tight-fitting lid.
- To Serve: Put 1 teaspoon of the seed mixture in 8 ounces of boiled water. Steep for 5-10 minutes. Strain and serve warm.
- Check your local Indian grocery store to purchase the spices. If you make this tea frequently for six weeks, you will need large quantities of cumin, coriander, and fennel. They will be much more affordable at the Indian store than at a conventional grocery store. You can also find them online through Mountain Rose Herbs.
- My Hospital Protocol: As this tea greatly aids in kickstarting a healthy digestive system, I ensure my clients have an ample supply during their hospital stay. I recommend drinking 4-6 cups every 24 hours. The easiest way to do this is to make and pack 12-16 individual tea bags with the rest of the post-birth recipes. All you’ll need to do is put the tea bag in a mug and add hot water (which the hospital can provide).
